2 Myth Final Astoria FINISHED!
I used 4 kinds of ink: Bright Pink, Rich Orange, Neon Green, Deep Blue. Plus Indian Black Ink.
I add water to them to get lighter color, such as their skin is Rich Orange+Water. The 1st panel on 3rd page is Deep Blue+ Water, etc.
I kind of cheated on page 3&4, you can see that I mixed blue and pink to create a purple in order to show the changing of atmosphere.
I didn't have time to finish the last 2 pages, after I'm done, I intend to ink them all over, cause pencil line is just not enough contrast.

You did such a great job with clarity in the storyline from what I saw in your thumbnails! The combination of narration and dialogue worked super well. I honestly think It looks really nice with the soft pencil outlines and I don't think that they get lost in the ink washes but I would be interested to see a test of inking the outlines. I do think that the panels might benefit from clean boarders and white gutters but thats super easy to do in photoshop after.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite part of your comic is how you handle each of the characters! Especially on the second page where we're introduced to the sisters, I really love how you're able to get a good sense of each of the girls' personality in their individual panels. One thing that did bother me was the blocked text. I can get a sense of what they're saying based on the text around it but I would like to be able to read the whole thing. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful comic! The way you rendered everything and the choices you made with how and where to apply color are really visually interesting and do a great job of establishing the mood of the panels. One thing I would watch is the way your characters overlap your bubbles. Like for example in the third panel on page one and the second panel on page two it looks like the guy's head and Danielle's hand are covering a portion of the text and obscuring it from view instead of creating a space between the words. I really enjoy your hand lettering as well, you did a great job deciding which parts of the text to give emphasis to.
ReplyDeleteYour soft ink work with bright colors is really well executed! I'm not sure what myth this is based on, but the narrative and somewhat whimsical tone reminds me of a movie called The Mermaid. Your comic is very easy to follow! You did a good job communicating what was happening and where to focus through layout, color, and the expressions of the characters. My only suggestion would be to include more moments of the boss neglecting his business duties, and perhaps show the fox girl gradually becoming worn out / uncomfortable so it feels more meaningful at the end when she gets to be "ears out glasses on" again!
ReplyDeleteI really like what you did with the third panel, the background turns to pink when he saw her at the party, it's such a good idea to show the change of mood. Your style fits the story really well! I feel like some of the text are too light to read, you may want to rewrite them with a heavier pen or edit digitally to make the text more readable.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate how you adapt the story from the original myth. Even the background changes a lot, but the essence of the story remains. Also, the hot pink and hot green you use really make the character stands out and keep a conflictive atmosphere for the story.
